The old saying goes “time waits for no man” and I never fully understood the meaning of it until this year. I had been contemplating creating this blog for months now, especially since I’m still in college, learning from my professors and perfecting my craft as a writer. But if it’s one thing I have learned, it is that the best way to grow as a writer is to write. I held off for so long because of doubts of my vision, my skill, my reach. Then one day, I realized that I was actually losing more than I thought I wouldn’t gain. Crazy, right? From January of this year up until now, life has presented me with many blessings making this an overall great year for me. However, I still had my days of weakness and by the time December 1st rolled in, I still found myself searching for my purpose; accomplishments were plenty, but overall minimal self-growth. Starting this blog on December 31st is my fresh start to maximizing.
As we head into a new year, leaving 2014 behind, ask yourself: What was my focus this year? Whether it was on all the negativity around you or on your goals for school or work, you have been given the opportunity to see a new year to either make a change in yourself or continue striving. Although the Holiday season is over, it is still a season nonetheless- the season of you.
‘Tis the season to take a leap of faith and follow your dreams, for you never truly know what you can conquer until you try. A year ago today I would have never pictured myself getting 2,000+ views on reads for a published magazine, yet alone starting my own blog. Dreams are much more attainable than we often times think and let’s be honest, we’re all so afraid of failure that dreams forever remain just that, dreams. Fearlessness is key. ‘Tis the season to break away from complacency and take action of all kinds; not just because your peers are doing so, but also because your souls moves you to. Instead of joining movements, create them. (Maybe you should underline that last line.) ‘Tis the season to erase the phrase “New Year, New Me” from your vocabulary because nothing about you should be new but rather, better. I thought now would also be a good time to add that if that phrase was your upcoming caption or status on one of your social networks, stop while you are ahead.
Today’s Keyword: Awakening |əˈwāk(ə)niNG| (n) : an act or moment of becoming suddenly aware of something; an act of waking from sleep
As we head into 2015, wake up. Be grateful that you are able to say farewell to your tribulations and begin anew. Be aware of all the hindrances that attempt to bring you down and focus on surpassing them all. Be aware that your life story is yet to be finished and you are it’s only author; hey, 2014 will soon be a chapter of the past. This is your time. This is your season. Will this new year be your awakening?
Until we meet again,
