Killin’ the EOY Like a Boss

“The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals.”
-Melody Beattie

Well, would you look at the time! We are already in December. The 2017 clock ticked its way through our lives faster than me scrolling past a Trump tweet via The Shaderoom. It’s the end of the year, the time of holidays. The time of anxiousness. The time when the world divides into two types of people: people who have given up on the current year and are awaiting a fresh start and those of us who are trying to solidify this past year and make sure we act on as much as we possibly can before the year runs out. Which one are you?

In two or so weeks, we will enter new beginnings. Like most people, you are probably reading this with a stress level at all-time-high. But why? 2017 was probably one of my toughest years but I am still making it my business to finish strong… I mean, cause that’s what bosses do. Here are few tips to conquer these upcoming weeks with vigor.

  1. Redirect your energy
Gossip. Unhealthy relationships. Over-usage of social media. All of that must go, you hear me? Cut it. In order for you to be in control, you must spend more time in your planner and less time in another’s IG profile. You have a world that is waiting to be yours, don’t let it pass you by. The number of hours you put into things that aren’t helping you reach your goals is a huge waste. We are human so we can only give so much of ourselves. Give your best to you.
  2.  Reflect on Accomplishments
Sometimes we get so lost in our pitfalls that it can damper productivity. Take some time to make note of all of the good things done and lessons learned this year. Reflect on how they have strengthened you for the better. I’m sure there is at least one trial that you thought you would never make it through. Yet here you are- check you out! Recite affirmations and give thanks to God for testing you in ways unknown yet finding a way to still see you through.
  3. Redefine your Goals
Now if you’re anything like me, the vision from January to now has definitely changed. And when I say “changed”, I’m not talking about the quick change before a party change. Oh no… a change like none other. Your experiences this year have led you to potentially new additions to your business plan, your school track, or your brand. Maybe even subtractions of friends or that job that started crumbling around the springtime are long overdue. And that is okay. During the summer I was asked what were my ultimate goals for this blog and guys, I fumbled. I stammered at the thought of providing a clear answer because the goal had honestly changed. I changed. Life is about being flexible and accepting those moments of “I have no clue what I am doing”, simply because it guides you to a true purpose. Before heading into 2018, take 30 minutes to jot down three of your latest short-term and long-term goals. How are you going to go about taking on those goals within these next few weeks? Oh yeah, and put a realistic deadline on them so you know it’s real.

Today’s Keyword: resolute |ˈrezəˌlo͞ot, -lət| (adj.): admirably purposeful, determined, and unwavering

Go into 2018 knowing that you left 2017 as purposeful as you could have. Be okay with the downfalls of the year, but highlight the triumphs. Toss unnecessary baggage to the curve and make those goals shine.  I’m sure you get what I’m saying now. Enough with reading and get to owning your 2017 before it owns you! I’ve got some goal digging to do myself! Peace.

Living in the now is,

Ki.
